Redmond
Select Boys’ Basketball Program
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Redmond Select
Boys Basketball (RSBB)?
Redmond Select is a non-profit organization
that provides an opportunity for boys in grades 5-9 to develop
basketball skills and play basketball in a competitive environment. Redmond
Select is a participant, with other local high schools, in the Eastside
Travel League and a development program for Redmond High School Boys’
Basketball.
Who is eligible for
Redmond Select?
Redmond Select has teams for grades 5-9.
Players must live within Lake Washington School District’s Redmond High
School boundaries. You can find out your home high school at the LWSD
site: http://busroutes.lwsd.org/elinkrp/ (login as “guest,” enter your
address and select grade 12). On an exception basis, players may seek a
variance into the program per Eastside Travel League requirements. Very few, if
any, variances are granted by the League. Requests for variance must be made
prior to tryouts.
When are Tryouts?
Tryouts for Redmond Select Teams are in
September. Pre-registration and participation in Open Gyms prior to tryouts is
encouraged.
What are Open Gyms?
Open Gyms are offered in August and September
as a way for boys to prepare for try-outs, coaches to preview players, and for
the organization to promote the program and recruit new players. Open Gyms
include a mix of individual drills and scrimmage.
What is the Game Schedule?
Redmond Select (grades 5-9)
participates
in the Eastside Travel League, which includes 16 games scheduled weekends
(typically one game Saturday and one game Sunday) December-February with post
season tournament in March.
Redmond Select also hosts a Holiday
Tournament scheduled over the Christmas/New Years Holiday Weekend, and
participate in 2-4 pre-season Tournaments in November (including Thanksgiving
weekend).
What is the Practice
Schedule?
Teams practice October through end-of-season,
1-3 times per week based on gym availability. Practice times and day-of-week
may vary week-to-week. Efforts will be made to schedule practices and
communicate changes in a timely manner.
What level of commitment
is required?
Expectations are that Redmond Select
Basketball will be players’ #1 sport priority in the regular season
(Dec-Feb). Redmond Select also recognizes that many of our players are
multi-sport athletes participating in fall sports whose schedules compete with
the pre-season (Oct-Nov) practice and tournament schedule. We understand that
Players need to finish up their commitment to these fall sports. Players will
not be penalized for missing practices and games in Oct-Nov. although players attending
on a regular basis will probably be better prepared for early season games.
Players anticipating more than a few absences
from practices and games during pre-season and regular season must identify
potential conflicts during try-outs.
How much does Redmond
Select cost?
A non-refundable registration fee of $350 is
required to cover the cost of tournaments and league games, uniforms, gym time,
equipment, insurance, marketing and administrative activities. Players must
purchase an AAU membership at a cost of approximately $15.
Individual and team expenses may be offset by
fundraisers and individual contributions. Scholarship funds are available from
Redmond Select and may be requested through the League President.
